The Prez and Negative Splits

So my training plan has a 30 minute run on it today. I guess this is a mini taper in preparation for my swim meet this weekend. I tried to go back and find the last 30 minute run I did but it has been a LONG time.

So I chose a route that I figured would be close to 5k in length which should take me a bit less than 30 minutes. I planned to do my run before dinner. On the way home from picking the kid up from camp we had to stop to watch the President in Air Force One land at the airport near my house.


It was a warm day with the temps around 80F when I went out for the run at 5pm.

I wasn't pushing the pace at all just trying to be comfortable at the start. First mile was a fairly normal pace. Second mile was actually 1 second faster. The third mile is a bit more uphill so I was trying to keep the pace. With the house in sight, I skipped the last walk segment and ran the remainder of the way to the house.

Exactly 3.1 miles. When I got inside I looked at my data and I had set a new 5k PR, and I negative split the run too! What the heck?!

So it was quite an eventful night!
